Is this lamp cordless?

Yes. It runs on a rechargeable lithium battery, so there is no cable attached while it is in use and it does not need to sit near a socket.

Why do the glass shades vary between pieces?

The shades are hand-finished glass. Small surface marks and slight variations from one piece to the next are a normal part of that process and do not affect how the lamp works. We would rather say so up front than have it come as a surprise.
