Light at eye level, not just overhead
A lamp on the console gives a soft glow where you actually use the space — checking a mirror, finding keys, setting down a bag. A ceiling light alone leaves the surface in its own shadow.
Keep the console usable
An entry surface collects keys, post and sunglasses fast. Keep the lamp to roughly a third of the width and set the base back from the front edge so nothing gets knocked on the way past.
